Lemosho starts on the remote western side and crosses the Shira Plateau before joining the southern circuit. The eight-day version adds a vital acclimatization day, which is why it has some of the best summit success rates on the mountain.

Drive to the western trailhead and hike through rainforest to the Big Tree camp.

Climb out of the forest onto the moorland of the Shira Plateau.

A gentler day crossing the plateau with sweeping views of Kibo.

Ascend toward Lava Tower for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp.

Climb the Barranco Wall and traverse to Karanga Camp.
