Clothing and colours
Pack neutral tones — khaki, olive and beige — and avoid bright white and dark blue, which can attract insects. Mornings are cold and afternoons hot, so layers beat heavy single garments.
The essentials
Binoculars, a wide-brim hat, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen, insect repellent and a refillable water bottle are the items travelers most often wish they had brought.
Bags and weight limits
Soft-sided duffel bags are best, especially if your trip includes light-aircraft flights, which usually limit luggage to around 15kg including hand luggage.
Health and documents
Carry any personal medication, a basic first-aid kit, copies of your passport and travel insurance, and check vaccination and malaria-prevention advice before you fly.
